what i hope they’re actually trying to communicate is that the trade-offs and complexity can be worth it.

what i want to say is that linux (broadly) is imperfect and infuriating, but also far more free, in very material ways, than anything from a corporate os or platform. it is learnable, and in learning you make the tool you already physically own into something more wholly your own. you will understand it, keep it running, and be able focus on doing the things you actually want to do with it. not as an appliance, but as a tool that you shape into something that meets your needs, not the needs of the corporate owners or the millions of eulas and terms we’ve all agreed to.

your computer can actually work for you, in a way you like, setup for the things it can help you do in your life.

it is not utopian, it has a lot of deep problems in every direction. you will be angry at it. but aren’t you already angry? so far i prefer the trade offs and frustrations of the broad linux world over the more or less helpless rage i feel for apple/ms/google.
