For the past year, we've tracked all finances for Hundred Rabbits using a bespoke spreadsheet program that's only 9kb(no it's not a webapp).

I was scratching my head wondering how we could link sheets with each other so that we could jump between them, I realized that a spreadsheet itself is just fine as a file browser if you can open the strings as paths.

Obviously it looks super weird if I try to open a markdown file as a tsv..

remember in early 2022 when biden announced "its time to go back to work" as if hospitals weren't still saturated with COVID-related deaths? when the CDC abruptly changed their reporting methods and fabricated consent for mask mandates to be dropped almost everywhere?
I'm sure you remember most of this but it bears repeating again: all of this was done with intent. 2020's initial lockdowns exposed the US economy as a flimsy house of cards and pushed it to the verge of collapse. neoliberal elites begged for a bailout and received it under the guise of "relief" and "stimulus" packages, 0% interest rates, and the fed outright directly buying corporate debt under the quantitative easing program.
they took advantage of what was essentially unlimited "free" money to pump the stock market and completely detach it from the reality of the "working class" economy. by the end of 2021 the stock market went from a virtual crash to all-time highs and billionaire elites gained trillions in net worth.
all of this wealth extraction happened while us commoners were more concerned with trying to cope with the fallout of record inflation, unemployment, supply chain failures, >1 million COVID cases and hundreds of deaths daily. despite the bleakness of reality for the vast majority of americans, the neoliberal core wasn't satisfied with record profits and endless corporate liquidity, they wanted to "reopen the economy" and to abandon all the expensive safety guidelines. it took very little effort for them to coerce the government into declaring the pandemic officially over and to roll back what limited mediocre protections had been created.
we're still dealing with the fallout of this shit 4 years later, reality has finally been completely subverted as far as the current government and media is concerned. thankfully yes, more and more people are finally realising it's all bogus, but it shouldn't have had to get to this point before that happened

I am a trans woman going through tough times - severe depression has had me unemployed for a while now and it's come to the point where I'm really struggling financially. so yeah. I continue to be broke as I go through the process to recieve universal credit, and slightly longer term hopefully I will get myself hired. I basically just need to hold on until the end of the month and avoid accruing debt and fees on late payments. meanwhile I am being as thrifty as I can with food, trying to find means to have decent meals cheaply... though this has largely meant Ive been running on a calorie deficit.
I don't have anything to offer except gratitute - I've recieved some help so far which I am extremely grateful for, but unfortunately I am finding myself having to keep asking. Any help I do get I intend to pay forward to someone esle in need once I am employed again. Thanks.

the zeitgeist for western civilization is currently that the whole rotten edifice has been able to exist for so long coasting purely off entrenched power and looted wealth without having to improve or adapt at all that it's gotten to the point where the OS that effectively powers the US (Microsoft Windows) is along with the US itself engaged in a death spiral of destroying its own empire. this isn't a decision being made by anyone so much as an emergent property of a fundamentally broken system.

I'm thinking about this right now because I have to work with Windows 11 at my job and it's not even bad in a "muh freedumbs" sense or like some tech autist nitpicking about not being able to change your theme. it straight up is a non-functional OS that should not have gotten a production release and is blatantly becoming more expensive for enterprises to use because of how much downtime gets created maintaining this broken piece of shit and fixing all the bugs that have been haphazardly shipped to end users.

but the most perverse part of all is that this is absolutely not going to lead to a "year of the linux desktop", because all of these organizations are part of the exact same zeitgeist. they are all systemically incapable of change and will, along with the United States and Microsoft, destroy themselves on purpose rather than adapt. it's really quite something to be watching an actual civilization collapse in motion and no one realizes yet that this is what's happening because the cascading failure effects have not become extreme enough for people to acknowledge that we have a major problem on our hands.
